Welcome to Twyford Irises. We specialise in growing mainly gorgeous tall bearded irises in our nursery in the beautiful and fertile Hawke’s Bay.

The 2021 season has begun. The irises have all been lifted and divided and the website updated with the new stock numbers.

We have some new introductions this season, all bred in New Zealand – Lyn Chappell’s Ladies Night Out, Vision in Burgundy, Champagne and Pearls, and Fabulous Fifties plus Gail Barth’s Terabyte. We also have 5 new introductions from John Trim – Frosty Raukawa, Midnight at Raukawa, Miss You Phyllis, Sir Prising and Wai Wurri.

This year we will also be showcasing the Hawke’s Bay Iris Collection, featuring irises bred locally, including dwarf, median, border, intermediate and of course tall bearded irises by Hilmary Catton, Isobel Simpson, Joan Stevens, Revie Harvey, Anne Seymour, Marion Ball, John and Heather Trim and Brian Townshend.

It’s easy to become addicted to these fabulous plants. What other plant offers so many different varieties, colours and styles and what better gift than a living plant that will reward for many years to come.

Nursery Opening Hours – usually from Labour Weekend until the end of flowering, about end of November. At other times by appointment. Group bookings for visits to the nursery are also welcome.

A large selection of bagged irises are available from the nursery all year round. Please contact us first if you are calling outside of the main flowering time. Orders from the previous year can be collected directly from the nursery or if prearranged will be posted from January onwards.

Bare-rooted irises can be purchased online most times of the year and will be sent tracked via NZ post. Orders taken during flowering time will be held until after flowering unless local pickup. Postage costs are fixed but if you are purchasing five or less please contact us for a lower rate.

Please be aware that plants may not always flower the first season. Also, some rhizomes are smaller than others. Just like us, they come in all shapes and sizes. All are healthy and will grow and flower for you.
