Bearded irises are vibrant, versatile plants that deserve a place in any garden. Relatively easy to grow they come in all colours apart from a true fire engine red. The iris plant actually takes its name from the Greek word for iris and means ‘rainbow’. Worldwide there are over 30,000 tall bearded iris hybrids. Many have been bred in New Zealand, some even bred here in Hawke’s Bay by John Trim. We have 620 different irises in our nursery – some are fragrant, others rebloom in autumn. All are stunning!
