After finding out our local iris growers weren’t continuing and feeling that we couldn’t let these fabulous irises leave Hawke’s Bay we decided to take on the nursery and in December 2018 the process of transferring the irises began. Fences went in, beds were marked out and made ready. The first irises were moved the week before Christmas and the whole operation completed by the third week in January 2019. We are now into our second season. There are now 630 different cultivars in their own beds, over 2000 bagged irises for sale and a picking garden of over 300 plants. Display gardens in different colour palettes showcase the variety of perennial plants that complement bearded irises. An iris log cabin showcases handcrafted wooden platters, and upcycled aluminium and silver jewellery. There are also designer calendars and cards and some iris merchandise which is featured on the website.
